The short version: Sovereign Vault is a notebook, not a doctor. It records what you tell it and shows it back to you. It does not advise you, check anything, or know whether what you are doing is safe or legal — those remain entirely yours to judge.
We hold no copy of your records and no copy of your key, so if you lose them we cannot get them back. And because you paid us once for a piece of software, what you can recover from us if something goes wrong is limited to what you paid.
The rest of this page says all of that properly.
1. This agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Barca Labs, LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Kansas, United States ("Barca Labs", "we", "us"), covering your use of the mobile application Sovereign Vault and the website at barcalabs.com (together, "the Service").
By downloading, installing or using the app, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the app.
How we handle information is described separately in our privacy policy, which forms part of these Terms.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 18 years old to use Sovereign Vault. The app is intended for adults tracking their own health information, and it is not designed, marketed or made available for use by minors.
You must also be legally able to enter into this agreement, and not barred from doing so under the laws that apply to you.
3. What the app is, and what it is not
Sovereign Vault is a record-keeping tool. It stores what you enter, organises it, and shows it back to you.
It can also prepare your record to be handed to someone else — a clinician, or an AI tool you choose to ask — by attaching context describing what the data is, where it came from, and how it should be read. That context is about the data. It does not contain an assessment, a conclusion, or an opinion about your health, and it is not sent anywhere: it is placed on your clipboard with your record, for you to paste.
It does not diagnose. It does not treat. It does not advise. It does not calculate or recommend a dose, flag a risk, interpret a lab result, or tell you what any of your data means. Where it displays a number, that number is one you entered or one your own device supplied.
Sovereign Vault is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.
Do not start, stop, or change any medication, compound, dose or protocol on the basis of anything this app displays. Seek the advice of a physician or other qualified provider with any question you have regarding a medical condition or treatment.
If you think you may have a medical emergency, call your doctor or emergency services immediately.
Nothing in the app, on this website, or in any communication from us constitutes medical, clinical, pharmacological, nutritional or legal advice.
4. What you record, and what you do
Many substances people track in an app like this are prescription medications. Some are controlled substances. Some are lawful to possess only with a valid prescription, and some are not lawful to possess at all in some places.
The app does not check any of this. It does not know what you have entered, whether you hold a prescription for it, where you are, or whether any of it is lawful there. Recording something in the app is not permission to obtain it, possess it, or use it, and it is not evidence that doing so is safe or legal.
You are solely responsible for what you obtain, possess and use, and for complying with every law that applies to you. Barca Labs does not supply, source, prescribe, recommend or endorse any substance, protocol or course of action.
You are also responsible for the accuracy of what you record. The app repeats what you gave it; it cannot detect a mistake in it.
5. Your data, and why we cannot recover it
Sovereign Vault stores your records in an encrypted database on your own device. There is no account, no server of ours, and no backup or sync service. We hold no copy of your records and no copy of the key that opens them.
That design has a consequence you should understand before you rely on the app:
- If you forget your PIN, your records cannot be recovered — not by you and not by us. We cannot reset it, bypass it, or read the database without it.
- If you delete the app, lose your device, or your device fails or is wiped, your records are gone unless you have made your own arrangements to preserve them.
- Device backups behave differently on iOS and Android, as described in the privacy policy and on the security page.
Keeping your own backup is your responsibility. The export function exists so that you can.
Beyond the design consequences above, the database engine the app is built on carries a known defect that can cause a recently saved entry to be lost. No corrected version is available to us at present. It is described in full on our security page, and it is a further reason to keep your own copy of anything you would not want to lose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Barca Labs is not liable for any loss, corruption or inaccessibility of your data, however caused, including where it results from a forgotten PIN, a lost or damaged device, an operating system change, or your own deletion of the app.
6. Exports
The app can copy a summary of your record to your device's clipboard. That summary reflects what you entered — no more and no less. Its usefulness and its accuracy depend entirely on the accuracy and completeness of your own records.
Check an export before you rely on it, and check it before you give it to anyone else, including a clinician or an AI tool. Once you paste it somewhere, that copy is governed by whatever you pasted it into and is outside our control entirely.
Where you paste your record into an AI tool, anything that tool tells you comes from that tool and not from us. We do not see the question you asked or the answer you were given, we do not review it, and we do not verify, endorse or take responsibility for it. The context the app attaches to your record describes that record; it does not assess it, and it is not an opinion about your health. Treat what any such tool tells you the way you would treat anything else you read on the internet about your own health.
7. Your licence
Sovereign Vault is licensed to you, not sold. Subject to these Terms, Barca Labs grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use one copy of the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal and non-commercial use.
You may not: copy, modify, translate or create derivative works of the app; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it except to the extent that restriction is unenforceable under applicable law; rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense or redistribute it; remove or obscure any proprietary notice; or use it to build a competing product.
All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Barca Labs retains all right, title and interest in the app, including all intellectual property in it. You retain all rights in the data you enter. We acquire no interest in it, because we never receive it.
8. Purchase, and the platform you bought from
Sovereign Vault is sold as a one-time purchase through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Those stores are the sellers of record and handle payment and billing. We never see your payment details.
Refunds work differently on each store, and it is worth knowing which one you bought from.
- Apple App Store. Apple handles refunds entirely. We cannot issue one, and a request has to go to Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play. Google handles most refunds, and we are also able to issue one directly. If there is a problem with your purchase, write to support@barcalabs.com and we will look at it.
Prices may change for future purchasers. A change in price does not entitle you to a refund or a payment, and does not affect a licence you have already bought.
9. Updates and changes to the app
We may issue updates that add, change or remove features. Some updates are delivered over the air and apply automatically the next time you open the app.
We do not promise that any particular feature will continue to exist, and we may discontinue the app entirely. If we discontinue it, the copy already installed on your device will keep working for as long as your operating system supports it, because it needs nothing from us to run.
10. Third-party services
The app can connect to services operated by others — for example Polar, if you choose to link a Polar account, and Apple Health or Health Connect on your own device. Update delivery uses a service operated by Expo.
Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control them and are not responsible for them, for their availability, or for what they do with information you give them directly. Each is described in the privacy policy.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, to interfere with or attempt to compromise the app or the website, or to record another person's health information without their knowledge.
12. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Barca Labs disclaims all warranties, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that any defect will be corrected, or that the app will meet your requirements or produce accurate or reliable results.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case those exclusions apply to the fullest extent the law allows.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Barca Labs and its members, officers and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use the service — whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, and whether or not we were advised of the possibility.
Barca Labs' total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service shall not exceed the greater of the amount you actually paid for the app in the twelve months preceding the claim, or twenty-five United States dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Barca Labs, LLC and its members, officers and agents from any claim, demand, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, from your breach of these Terms, from anything you obtain, possess or use, or from any decision you make in reliance on information you recorded in the app.
15. Termination
These Terms apply for as long as you use the app. You may end them at any time by deleting the app. We may terminate your licence if you materially breach these Terms.
Sections 3, 4, 5, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17 survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Talk to us first. If you have a dispute with us, contact support@barcalabs.com and give us 60 days to resolve it informally. Most things can be sorted out this way, and it costs neither of us anything.
If it cannot be resolved, you and Barca Labs agree that any action shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the State of Kansas, and both of us consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. This does not prevent either of us from bringing an individual claim in a small claims court.
17. Apple and Google
Where you obtained the app from the Apple App Store, the following applies and Apple's own terms also govern your use:
- These Terms are between you and Barca Labs, LLC only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement or discharge of any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.
Where you obtained the app from Google Play, Google's own terms also govern your use, and these Terms are between you and Barca Labs, LLC only.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and where a change is material we will make a reasonable effort to bring it to your attention in the app.
Continuing to use the app after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and delete it.
19. General
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions stay in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
These Terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and Barca Labs regarding the Service.
